Note: 241. Leonard6 BRICKETT (Edmund5 , John4 , James3 , James2 , Nathaniel1 ) was bom 2 Aug 1803 in Salem, Rockingham, NH. (NHVR). Leonard died 3 Aug 1871 in Deny, Rockingham, NH, at the age of 68. (NHVR). and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Deny, NH. Like his father, Edmund, he was a blacksmith for most of his life. He applied his trade to the horses that traveled the turnpike between Concord, NH and points south in Massachusetts, including Lawrence, Lowell, and Boston. His shop was located at the top of Ryans Hill which was on what is now route 28, in Deny, NH, adjacent to an inn called the Tenney place, which also served the turnpike. In 1855 he bought a house located in the center of Deny Village standing on the north end of Thornton Square where Association Hall now stands. At this time he stopped blacksmithing full time and became a trader in real estate etc. His house caught fire and burned completely in December 1870 while he was suffering the early stages of his final illness. He moved about one half mile to the "Gregg" house which his son Leonard Paul had purchased in 1866. He married (1) Clarissa TAYLOR 18 Apr 1826. She was bom 31 Dec 1805 in Deny, Rockingham, NH. (NHVR). She was the daughter of Adam TAYLOR and Martha PAUL. Clarissa died 4 Sep 1861, at the age of 55, and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Deny, NH. Leonard married (2) Abigail Fitz STICKNEY 5 Aug 1862 in Deny, Rockingham, NH. (NHVR). She was bom 20 May 1814 in Deny, Rockingham, NH. (NHVR). She was the daughter of Ebenezer STICKNEY and Hannah FITZ. Abigail died 20 Aug 1891 in Deny, Rockingham, NH, at the age of 77 (NHVR), and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Deny, NH. ISSUE: 486. i. BRICKETT, bom 11 Jun 1827, died in infancy 11 Jun 1827. 487. ii. He manied (1) Julia Walton EASTMAN 12 Jul 1877 in Lynn, Essex, MA. (MAVR). She was bom 22 Jan 1845 Ln Deny, Rockingham, NH. (NHVR). She was the daughter of Benjamin EASTMAN and Sophia SIMS. Julia died 24 Aug 1895 in Deny, Rockingham, NH, at the age of 50 (NHVR), and was buried in Forest Hills Cemetery, East Deny, NH. George married (2) Helen Louise ADAMS 30 Oct 1900 in Deny, Rockingham, NH. (NHVR). She was bom 10 Dec 1847 in Deny, Rockingham, NH. (NHVR). She was the daughter of George F. ADAMS and Elizabeth WHITNEY. Helen also married (2) John Quincy Adams JEFFERS. Helen died 8 Feb 1936 in Melrose, Middlesex, MA. at the age of 88 (MAVR), and was buried 11 Feb 1936 in Forest Hills Cemetery, Deny, NH. George died 16 Oct 1917 in Melrose, Middlesex, MA. at the age of 78 (MAVR), and was buried 21 Oct 1917 in Forest Hills Cemetery, East Deny, NH. He graduated from Pinkerton Academy and was principal of the grammar school at Danvers, MA from 1860-1863. He worked for the internal Revenue Bureau of the Treasury Department in Norwich, CT. For 20 years he was a bookkeeper with Taylor, Thomas & Co., and their successors, dry goods importers. George served as assistant postmaster of Lynn, MA from 1894 to 1898, was a writer for the newspapers of Lynn, MA and also wrote many articles for the Deny, NH News under the caption of "Sol Klein". He also wrote poetry, and had several of his poems published. In the 1910 Census he is listed in Melrose, MA. 494. ix. Martha Elizabeth BRICKETT, bom 25 May 1846, died in childhood 15 Apr 1849, at the age of 2.
