In 1872 the Burts moved to Columbus, Ohio, where they lived at 75 Hoffman Avenue, Columbus; 728 Franklin Avenue, Columbus; as well as 886 East Broad Street, Columbus, in later years. William worked as a leaser at the Ohio Fuel Supply Company, and was noted in his obituary as a "well known oil man". The couple were members of the Broad Street Presbyterian Church where William was deacon for several years. They had 3 children, Gertrude, Robert Clark Burt, and Willard Arista Burt.
