OBIT: The Humeston New Era, Humeston, Wayne, Iowa 9 Jan 1909 Mrs. Sarah Brown Taylor Miss Sarah Brown was born in Richland county, Ohio, March 21, 1828. She was married to John M. Taylor in Fulton county, Illinois Oct 14, 1849. They came to Iowa in 1851 and settled in Wapello county about ten miles from Ottumwa. Between 1852 and 1853, the First Presbyterian church of that city was organized and Mr. Taylor was one of the first ruling elders ordained in that church. About 22 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor came to Humeston to live, Mr. Taylor being the first to leave, his death occuring June 19, 1900. Mrs. Taylor continued a resident here until she was called away on the morning of December 28, 1908. There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Taylor four sons and two daughters; William H., living in Cass county, North Dakota; Robert C. , whose home is in Atlantic, Iowa; John B. who died in infancy; Thomas A., a resident of Des Moines; Rachel A., wife of Daniel Snyder, living about 15 miles south west of Humeston, and Mary R. , wife of William D. Ewing residing in Humeston with whom Mrs. Taylor made her home. All the children who are living were able to be present at the funeral except the son in North Dakota, who was unavoidably detained. There were also present J. H. Phillips of O'Neill, Nebraska, James Kent, Perry, Iowa, T. H. Maxwell, Chariton, James Grimes, Derby, nephews of Mrs. Taylor and also a niece, Mrs. W. A. Gillespie, Pueblo, Colorado. Besides the immediate family, Mrs. Taylor also leaves a sister, Mrs. M. A. Phillips, Sisseton, South Dakota and three brothers, William Brown, Simpson, Nebr. Thomas Brown , Bradshaw, Nebraska and Joseph Brown who resides in San Francisco, California. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Presbyterian church of Humeston for about 15 years. When in 1901, the Congregational church organized she, with others, became a member of that organization to which she belonged at the time of her death. Mrs. Taylor was a devoted christian, a woman whose sense of duty was strong, a faithful, patient worker, tireless as she was patient. She has lived a good and useful life and, though her absence will be mourned, her influence and example have left good fruitage, called at a ripe old age her death leaves no shadows, but a trail of light. "Blessed are they who die in the Lord", and blessed are they who live in the Lord; let us praise God for all good women and let us rejoice and grow strong in the truth that goodness is eternal. The funeral service was held at the home on Wednesday afternoon at half past two. Conducted by Rev. G. H. Putnam, pastor of the Congregational church, and the remains were laid to rest in Humeston cemetery. !CEM: Iowa Cemetery Records <http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=4711&enc=1> Sarah Taylor, Death Date: 1908, Page #: 114, Birth Date: 1828, Cemetery: Humeston, Town:Richman Level Info: Grave Stone Records of Wayne County, Iowa.
