  1. Wentworth Taylor: Death: 1890 in At Sea

Notes
a. Note:   Interesting tidbit: Matt.; Matt; John; WENTWORTH - Wentworth's son, Thomas Alex 1824 - 1863, a Grammar School Teacher was aboard the "Alice M. Strople" when it went down. There was a hurricane on Jan. 9 & it was believed that the ship sank at that time. Thomas' wife, Anne, was left a widow with a 5 wk. old child & no means of support. A "School Law" was passed here in Nova Scotia in 1864 & she applied for a license to teach & was granted a 2nd class one. She taught 14 yrs., went to "Count Academy" & tried for a 1st class license. She passed everything except Geometry & stayed at a 2nd class. As the number of teachers increased in Guysborough Co., their salaries DECREASED & she found it hard to meet expenses. She then , in 1880, she petitioned the Gov't for a "tract of land" which was usually awarded to "aging teachers". She must have been independent & determined, making a life for herself & her child.
