He married Ester Fisher January 18, 1811 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Notes for Wentworth Taylor: In July 1825 Wentworth Taylor was elected as a School Board Trustee for the County of Guysborough. On the night of April 5th, 1839, the house of Wentworth Taylor, Esq., at CooWs Cove, was fired into, and his daughter Eliza and her friend, Miss Sarah Geary, had their faces cut and scratched by broken glass from the windows. The whole family was aroused and much alarmed, not being able to imagine any cause for such an outrage. Upon the same night a similar attack was made upon the dwelling of Edward I. Cunningham, Esq., in the town of Guystiorough. An investigation was held, but no clue to the assailant was ever discovered. There the subjoined notice was issued: A PROCLAMATION 100 pound REWARD By his excellency, Lieutenant- Governor and the Commander in Chief in and over Her Majesty's Province of Nova Scotia and its Dependencies, etc., etc. Whereas, I have received information that on the night of the 5th day of the present month of April, a most outrageous attach was made on the house of Wentworth Taylor Esq., at Lower Salmon River, near Guysborough, the county of Guysborough, by two or more violent and eviI disposed persons, who fired several times guns, loaded with balls and large shot into the windows and other parts of the house with intent to murder or do bodily harem to the inmates thereof, and whereas, it has been further represented to me that , about one hour after the before mentioned attack a gun loaded with ball was fired into the dwelling House of E. 1. Cunningham ESQ., at Guysborough aforesaid: and whereas the endeavors made to discover the perpetrators of the aforesaid atrocities have hitherto proved unsuccessful; Now, therefore, in order to the discovery and punishment of the parties engaged in perpetrating these malicious and most infamous Offences, 1 do, by and with the advice and consent of Her Majesty's Executive Council. Publicly offer and proclaim a Reward of 100 pounds to any person or persons. Not being party or parties in the said offences, who will give such information and evidence as will lead to the discovery, apprehension snd conviction; of the perpetrators thereof, and others accessory thereto, - which reward will be paid on conviction, due course of law, of the guilty parties. And, by and with the evidence and consent aforesaid, I do hereby offer fifty pounds part of the above mentioned reward, with a Free Pardon, unto any person accessory to the said offences, or either of them, not being the principal therein, nor the contriver thereof, who will disclose the names of the principal and other perpetrators of said offences, and give evidence, leading to their apprehension and conviction therefor. Given under my Hand and Seal at Arms at Halifax, this 30th day of April, in the second year of Her Majesty's Reign and I the year of our lord 1839. By his Excellency's Command, Rupert D. George, God Save the Queen. The proffered compensation was never claimed, and all that was incidentally asceeted was, that a plot had been formed against Mr. Taylor as a prominent Temperance Magistrate, and against Mr. Blanchard, then an inmate of Mr. Cunningharn's family, was at that time clerk of license - that it had been planned by persons favorable to liquor selling, and in retaliation for fines imposed for illegal traffic. On April 14, 1853, died, Wentworth Taylor, Esq., aged 66 years. His early fife was spent in Truro, whence he removed to St. Marys. Here he married and lived for several years, when again changed his residence, and spent the remainder of this life at Cook's cove, near Guysborough. He was widely known and well respected as a magistrate and an earnest Temperance advocate. He filled the offices of Prothonotary, Surveyor of Crown Lands, and Commissioner of Roads. The Wentworth Road, from Guysborough to Cook's Cove, was named for him. The monument to his memory in the Methodist burial ground bears this inscription; " This testimonial to his moral worth and public services is erected by his brother magistrates, and other inhabitants of the County of Guysborough" Land Transactions involving Wentworth Taylor I.Grantor 2.Grantor's Residence 3.
