Notes
a. Note:   TAYLOR: James, Jr. . b.ca. 1792 Burton, NB. He m. Mary Robinson Bartlett, d/o Richard Bartlett Jr. and Mary Holly of County of Saint John on 29 January 1815. He was probably the son of James Taylor Esq. of Maugerville, (b.1761 Londonderry, N.H., d.1834 Maugerville), and Margaret Bartlett d/o Richard Bartlett Sr., (b.1762 Truro, N.S., d.Maugerville 1835.) There were three James Taylor Srs. at the time, and in the same area. His son, and my great-grandfather was probably Gain Bartlett II, b.1819 Burton, d.1906 Saint John. He was married to Elizabeth Reynolds 28 August 1851 in Portland N.B. Looking for documented evidence of the parents of, and children of James, Jr & wife Mary R.B. / originally posted Jan 1999 Hi: I am a descendent of James Taylor & Mary R. Bartlett. James Taylor & Mary Bartlett had a daughter Emily who married George Valentine Reynolds on 25 Oct 1860. They had 7 children: Ella(Nell), Jenny, Catherine Ann, George Valentine, Herbert, Harold Taylor, Cora. This is the information I have with regards to the line. Sarah Elizabeth Reynolds married Gain Bartlett Taylor at Saint John New Brunswick. They had 6 children: Annie, William, Alberta, Gain Bartlett II, Helen, & Albert. Gain Bartlett II Taylor born 27 Nov 1873 at Saint John New Brunswick. Married Maud Spragg at Saint John New Brunswick.(This from Prominent People of the Maritime Provinces, published by Canadian Publicity Co., Montreal, St John,Vancouver; printed by J&A McMillan Printers. 1922 St John N.B. Ronald. Gain Bartlett III Taylor married at St John New Brunswick to Marjorie Gibson Cowan daughter of Joshua E. Cowan and Annie MCConnell. They had two children: John , & Jane Victoria Gibson Taylor. If you would like more information please email me and I can see what help I could offer you. What is your connection to these people? With Regards, Julie I would like to thank you for answering my query, and to congratulate you on the accuracy and thoroughness of your research. You are right on, concerning my line from Gain Bartlett Taylor 11, and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Reynolds, my great-grandparents, down to my parents Gain Bartlett Taylor 111, and Marjorie Taylor. I am their son John. I am trying to document Mary Robinson Bartlett d/o Richard Bartlett and Mary Robinson Holly of Lepreau and Saint John, as the mother of Gain Bartlett Taylor I. I have been able to document Gain's birth place as Burton, Sunbury Co., N.B. and his father as James Taylor, also of the same place. I have been in contact with the archivist at the N.B. Archives, in Fredericton and he has informed me that it is impossible to document on paper, any civil information , regarding the mother of an individual, born in the 18th and 19th centuries. Everything on paper, documents only the father's name. I also have found it impossible to document Mary Robinson Bartlett as my great-great-grandmother. I am in possession of the Reynolds' genealogical chart. It has the children of James Valentine Reynolds, supposedly the first male-child born, after the landing of the Loyalists (I have the news clipping); Catherine, Elizabeth, and George V., marrying Converse Taylor, Gain Bartlett Taylor, and Emma Taylor, respectively. Emma's marriage to George V. Reynolds was carried out by the Rev. Sam. Robinson, of Portland 25Oct1860. I also have been able to document the marriage of James Taylor Jr. of Maugerville to Mary Bartlett d/o Richard Bartlett, 31Jan1815. Mary Robinson Bartlett in her will of 1840, leaves some of her assets to Mary Robinson Bartlett Taylor. I would be most appreciative if you have any information, or documentation to connect Mary Robinson Bartlett to my g-grandfather Gain Bartlett Taylor 1. The Bartlett connection is very important to me, as it is the middle name of many of the children, in the male line, including mine. I also would like to know where you got your information from, i.e. documented sources and other areas of research. It's like proving a mathematical problem. I would be happy to share any information with you on the Reynolds' genealogical chart. I was able to access the chart many years ago, at a meeting of the S.J. Genealogical Society. I believe it was the work of the late Walter (Cappy) Lennox Bagnell. I look forward to hearing from you, Yours truly, John Taylor
