Comment: hus of: Sarah, Level Info: Grave Stone Records of Wayne County, Iowa !OBIT: Corydon Democrat Humeston Items June 22, 1900 John M. Taylor Yesterday, about 1 o'clock, J. M. Taylor, one of the oldest and most esteemed citizens passed away after an illness of about three weeks. Mr. Taylor was an earnest Christian, a kind and generous neighbor and was loved and esteemed by all who knew him. The most tender sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. McClure. Humeston New Era, Humeston, Iowa page 5 June 27, 1900 John M. Taylor was born in Park county, Indiana, March 10 1824 and died June 19, 1900. Moved with his family to Fulton Co., Illinois in 1881. [?] Was married to Miss Sarah Brown in 1849 and lived near Canton, Ill., until 1851, when they moved to Wapello Co., where they resided until 1864. Resided in Lucas Co., a number of years, moving to Wayne Co., in 1876, where he has since lived most of the time. Has lived in Humeston since 1880. Four sons and two daughters were born to them, but God called one of the boys at the age of five to be with Him. The three sons that survive him came home and spent a week visiting him and doing all they could do to comfort him. Only one brother survives him of his fathers family and was a great comfort to him that he came and staid with him the last two weeks of life on earth. He united with the Presbyterian church in Canton, Ill., in 1846. He helped organize the first Presbyterian church in Ottumwa, 1858 and served in it as an elder for twelve years. He has served in that capacity in various churches ever since. He loved the church and was always in his place doing all he could for his Master. His last and almost only sickness was heart trouble with which he had been troubled for the past two years. Being confined to his bed about three weeks, he bore the suffering very patiently, praying and singing and talking to those he knew had not accepted Christ. His last talk being to a friend to induce him to become a Christian. He knew he was going to be with his Master and welcomed death. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, conducted by the pastor Rev. McClure and he was laid to rest in the Humeston cemetery. Card of Thanks Mrs. J. M. Taylor and family desire to return their sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted them during the sickness and death of Mr. Taylor. !ATTEND-FUNERAL: Corydon Democrat Humeston Items June 22, 1900.
