By Albert Adams Graham Worthington Historical Society 50 West New England Avenue Worthington, Ohio 43085 RE: Reverend Matthew Taylor (1772-1835) To Whom It May Concern: CtabDI have been searching for a burial place for one of my ancestors, Reverend Matthew Taylor, and have not had any luck in finding anything about him although it was known that he lived on a farm and died in Worthington. I'm hoping you might be able to help. I am also particularly interested in learning the names and approximate dates of birth of his children. His wife was Agnes Fisher when he left New Hampshire and I am not sure if she was with him in Worthington or not. Anyway, this is what I do have about him: CtabDDartmouth 1801, entered the ministry, and went as a missionary to Ohio where he died. ame:CtabDMathew Taylor date of birth:CtabD27 Oct 1772 place of birth:CtabDLondonderry, Rockingham, New Hampshire, United States father's name:CtabDSamuel Taylor mother's name:CtabDSarah place recorded:CtabDLondonderry, Rockingham, New Hampshire, United States gs film number:CtabD1001049 digital gs number:CtabD4244317 image number:CtabD03702 groom's name:CtabDMatthew Taylor groom's birth date:CtabD groom's birthplace:CtabD groom's age:CtabD bride's name:CtabDAgnes Fisher bride's birth date:CtabD1776 bride's birthplace:CtabDAntrim bride's age:CtabD25 marriage date:CtabD01 Oct 1801 marriage place:CtabDFrancestown, Nh groom's father's name:CtabD groom's mother's name:CtabD bride's father's name:CtabDJames Fisher bride's mother's name:CtabDAnna Steele groom's race:CtabDWhite groom's marital status:CtabD groom's previous wife's name:CtabD bride's race:CtabDWhite bride's marital status:CtabD bride's previous husband's name:CtabD indexing project (batch) number:CtabDM73155-2 system origin:CtabDNew Hampshire-VR source film number:CtabD1001313 reference number:CtabD2:3WCK0DW September 1814 the Rev Matthew Taylor commenced a missionary tour to the state of Ohio In that state and in New York while on his jour ney going and returning he labored 34 weeks preached 125 sermons admitted 10 members into the church and baptised 3 adults and 7 children besides visiting many families The greater part of these services were performed south west of the Connecticut Reserve Mr Taylor has recently removed with his family from Granville in New York to Worthington in Ohio to take the pastoral charge of the church and people in that place for a part of the time and the residue he will spend in the vacant settlements in that vicinity He agrees with other missionaries in his general account of the religious and moral state of that part of our country Lunenburg http://lptex.com/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I655&tree=MAIN MattHew Taylor the son of Samuel and Sarah Fisher Taylor was bom at Londonderry Apr 10 1770 and died at Truro Ohio Apr 8 1835 m 65 minus 2 days He studied divinity was ordained an Evangelist in NH then went to Ohio as a Presbyterian missionary and was stated supply at Truro for about 3 j ears after this his ministry ceased and life was passed on a farm He married Anna dau of James Fisher of Francestown in 1801 Sketches of the alumni of Dartmouth college: from the first graduation in ... By Nathan Franklin Carter, pg. 459 CtabDIf you have any information or can give me any leads, I would very much appreciate it. Please feel free to respond by e-mail. Sincerely, Pat Taylor Jennings 3697 N. Stone Road Hesperia, MI 49421 busybee1952@hotmail.com Pat, You're right that I'm confused about all your Samuels and Matthews. It's hard to keep in your head without a chart, but the principle is the same. Probably the only sure way to clarify relationships is through wills or land records. Isn't it frustrating to always descend from the "other one" whose heirs move on and don't have bios in county histories? No, WHS doesn't have the capability to make microfilms. Worthington Estate Records, 1803-1850, is available at the Worthington Library and at WHS and either could make a photocopy of a specific estate. The name index is on the WHS website under genealogical resources. Jennie PS -- Because it is difficult to hire a researcher who knows how to search estate case files, I copied the relevant entry from the OHS archives website that cites the microfim GR numbers. The archives/library offers their microfilm census records available through interlibrary loan but I do not know whether that is true for estate case files. You might ask. Individual rolls are available for purchase. You will note there are three different rolls that reportedly include some 1835 case files (these were packets that held various papers, not record books) . Early records are a bit disorganized and might contain a case file or two out of sequence . Summary Creator Franklin County (Ohio). Deed Indexes at OHS. The Grantor Index for S-Z, 1804-1888 (GR3364) and the Grantee Index is S-Z, 1804-1888 (GR3364). These are indexes to deed records, showing year of record, names of grantor and grantee, volume and page numbers of record, name of town or township, section or survey and lot number, and description of tract. You are probably the only one who could sort out a possible inheritance for the correct Matthew from section or lot numbers in Truro Twp.
