Notes
a. Note:   1900 Military Census shows his address as 41 Avenue #3006, Chicago, IL. This address is the same as his sister Mary and husband William Delihant were shown living at this time. Shows father born in Canada and mother in Ireland.
Robert was in Cuba in 1900 in the Columbia Barracks. He was with the 8th Regiment, Infantry, Company F. Possible he fought in the Spanish American War or the Phillipine War. Most likely he was just part of the occupation force in Cuba after the wars. Yellow Fever was a problem and Major Walter Reed was part of the team in Cuba to study cures.
Robert's enlistment paperwork shows he enlisted at St. Paul, Minnesota on October 26, 1899 and he was 21 years and 9 months and single. He was 5' 8 1/2", 144 pounds, blue eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion. He listed his sister Mary Delihant as his closest relative and said he was a farmer. He was discharged on October 25, 1902, at Fort Columbus, New York. More than likely because of the enlistment date of Robert, he missed the Spanish American War, but served during the Phillipine American War (February 1899 till 1902). Pension would still be listed under Spanish American War if he received one.
