a. Note:   In 1894, Albert bought a plot at Concordia Cemetery, Forest Park, Illinois to bury his son Otto. Since then there have been eight burials in all in Lot 703, Section 6. Two letters written by family in 1942 and 1947 to add member to the plot spell the name as Schulz.
  1896 to1897 directory has the address of 2938 S. 42 Avenue and Albert Schulz is listed as a labourer.
  The 1898 and 1899 Chicago City Directory shows Albert Schultz with a home address of 2838 S. 42 Avenue. Also listed as a meat market for work at this same address. According to a real estate listing found, this property was built in 1899. The 1904 directory has the same information, but no work information listed.
  By the 1910 Chicago City Directory the name is now listed as Schulz (sic) and he his listed as a grocer. This holds true with 1913. The 1914 directory lists a home address of 2838 S. Keeler. Chicago went through a remapping about this time and the street names changed. The 1915 directory had the same information and in 1916 Albertina is listed as a widow of Albert.
  1900 census shows address of 2938 S. 42 Avenue and lists Albert Schultz(sic) born October 1846. He is a Grocer. Shows he and his wife came to U.S. in 1888. They had been married for 22 years at this point. She had 9 pregnancies with five surviving. There is another person by the name of Fred Dahms?? 45 years old living with them who is a butcher. He is there in 1910 also and is a boarder.
  1910 Illinois census has Albert and Albertina Shulz (sic) with William and Lily living at home. Indicates Albertina bore 10 children with only 5 surviving. They had been married for 32 years and shows they came to U.S. in 1886. Albert was the proprietor of a meat market. Census also indicates house number was 2838 South 42 Avenue. (Renumbering and renaming of streets started about this time in the Chicago area for annexing purposes.)
  1910 census indicates "first papers" under question if alien.
  Death certificate does not list parents. Says he was in U.S. 27 years and 18 years at address on Keeler where he died. He was buried November 29, 1914 at Concordia Cemetary, Forest Park, Illinois, Lot 703, Section 6.
  Located ship "Main" from Bremen to Baltimore May 10, 1887 that shows Pass #1078-1081 as Albert Schulz 41 (farmer), Albertine 38 (wife), Louise 10, Greta 10 months. Shows they were in compartment A (which most likely was steerage) and had 2 bags. FHL 417424, NARA film 255, Passengers arriving at Baltimore 1820-1891, Roll 42, list 45. Margaret later told family that she was smuggled to the U.S. in a trunk.
  Possibly found birth certificate for daughter Anna. States Albert and Albertine born in Pommern Germany. See Anna's birth.
