Notes
a. Note:   According to Cousin Linda Roberts Lori, James raced horses by harness. May have known Wyatt Earp and Annie Oakley. Revolver Patty Reardon Gault has may be from one of them. He smoked a pipe and would sing Irish lullabyes.
Birth certificate was found to be a delayed reporting on September 25, 1942 and sworn to by sister Mary Reardon Delihant of Three Rivers, Michigan. No middle name listed. He may have needed it to prove his age for the old mans WWII registration.
1899, 1904, 1906 Chicago City Directory shows James living at 3006 S. 41 Avenue. 1906 directory shows him working as a "collr" at 303 Dearborn and 1907 and 1908 directory says 277 Dearborn. This is in the same location as William T. Delihant was working. It is believed that William may have owned the company that James worked for.
The 1907 and 1908 Chicago City Directory shows James living in Brookdale but does not show an address. He is not listed in the 1909 and 1910 City directory.
1910 Census shows family living on Park Avenue, Congress Park, Brookfield, where they owned a house. The address is listed as 3907 Park Avenue on son John's birth certificate. There was a child named Lawrence under the age of 1 year also on the census. This could have been the son later named Robert. The census was taken just within the month this child was born. Another son was born in 1918 and named Lawrence. Margaret had a history of naming children by the same name as Fern and Margaret were both Margaret's at one time.
An interesting fact is that James cousin, Thomas Harris Delihant, was working as a showman for a circus in Oregon during this census. A family story is that James had worked for a travelling show of some sort and had met Buffalo Bill Cody and Annie Oakley.
September 12, 1918, James registered for WWI in nearby Cicero. Date of birth listed same as birth record found. He lists his address at 38 Calendar Ave, La Grange, Illinois. Says he is a salesman for Liberty Fuel Company. Wife listed as Margaret. He is of medium height, weight with brown eyes and brown hair. Address of 112 W. Calendar was given on the late reporting of son Lawrence's birth.
1920 census shows Albertine Schulz (mother-in-law) living with family in Three Rivers, Michigan. The census also shows all children from Arthur to Lawrence were born in Illinois.
1920 census shows James as working at a papermill. Both parents being listed as from Ireland and he being born in Illinois.
There is mention of the Delihant name in Patricia's baby book and one of the witnesses on the marriage license of Marion and John Reardon was a Harold Delihant (cousin 1910 census).
The 1900 census shows James Arthur Reardon (1880) living with his brother-in-law, William Delihant (a coal salesman). He is living at 3006 S. 41 Avenue in the same area as his future wife Margaret Shulz. James is listed as a Jockey on this census. Also on this 1900 census his father is listed as having been born in Canada (Ireland). According to another researcher the area James is living, West Town, is where many of the Irish from the Northern provinces of Ireland settled and is separated from South Chicago where Irish from the southern provinces settled.
Chicago area was remapped at various times in the early 1900's. By 1914, South 41 Avenue was now known as Karlov Avenue.
1930 census shows family back in Illinois. James is working as a superintendent at a coal yard (probably owned by Delihant). They are living at 7215 Randolph Street in Forest Park Village. All the children except James Arthur are living at home. Kathryn is a dispenser of fountain drinks, Robert works construction, John is a chauffer in the coal yard, William is a typist for the coal yard. James now says his parents were both from Northern Ireland.
According to the family, James died while visiting his daughter Fern. Kathleen Callan heard that he died while at the doctor's office after a checkup in Chicago.
He had to register for WWII in old mans draft. He was 61 and height and weight was entered along with where he was born and the date. He signed the card.
In looking for the birth records of the children it appears they were not reported at time of birth. Have found several of the sons reported in the 1940's.

Note:   The Chicago Daily Tribune, April 14, 1903 shows an announcement for Marriage Licenses with James (22 yrs) and Maggie (18 yrs) listed.
The marriage license shows they were married by a Justice of the Peace. Maggie was most likely pregnant with first child at time.
