a. Note:   According to Bess Hall Frank Gertrude was a switchboard operator both in Alabama and Ohio. Per Jackie Hall Shrock July 1996 - James Hall and his mother Gertrude lived together until his marriage to Jackie and she lived either with or near them until her death. Jess Hall Conrad had come to visit Gertrude and then came to Jackie and Jim's to say that she wasn't home. Jackie knew that she had babysat Wilda's children the night before and thought perhaps she had stayed the night at Wilda's. She called Wilda and found this wasn't so. Jackie had a key to Gertrude's house so went there and found her dead. It had been cool the evening before and Gertrude had turned on an oil furnace that was not properly vented. She died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Woman's Death Due to Gas Fumes - The death of Mrs. Gertrude Zella Hall at her home on the Damascus Rd. Sunday afternoon was due to accidental carbon monoxide asphyxiation, Dr. William Kolozsi, Columbiana County coroner, ruled late Monday. The coroner said the victim had turned on an unvented gas heater in the living room to keep warm and while in the act of writing a letter to a brother in Alabama, became drowsy and fell asleep on the bed. The heater was still in operation when one of her children discovered the tragedy. The widow of Bud David Hall, she is survived by four daughters and three sons. Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Stark Memorial.
