(Source: Odell Bowen Roberts) The Cullman Times Wednesday September 9, 1970 - County pair dies in Vinemont crash - VINEMONT - A grinding, two-car, head on collision claimed the lives of a Cullman County man and woman and injured a Morgan County man near here late Tuesday afternoon. Dock Hall, 73, of Vinemont 1, and Maggie Slaughter, 74, of Cullman10 were killed instantly in the crash, which occurred at a sharp curve on old U.S. 31, 3.6 miles west of here. The two are the 17th and 18th persons to lose their lives on Cullman County highways this year. Injured was Jerry Gullion, .., of Falkville 1, driver of the other vehicle. Gullion was taken to Cullman Hospital where officials said he was being held for observation. His injuries were not considered serious, according to a hospital spokesman. Trooper M. V. Hall, who investigated the accident, stated a man said he talked with the injured man before authorities reached the scene. The man, according to the trooper, said Gullion told him he had reached down to pick up something from out of his floorboard, looked up and found himself in the left lane when the vehicles collided. The bodies of Hall and the Slaughter woman were taken to Moss-Service Funeral Home in Cullman. Funeral arrangements will be made later. OBITUARIES - The Cullman Times Friday September 13, 1970 Dock H. Hall and Maggie M. Slaughter Funeral services for Dock H. Hall 72, and Mrs. Maggie M. Slaughter 74, who were killed in an accident near Vinemont Tuesday, will be held today at Emeus Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with internment following in the adjoining cemetery. Moss Service Funeral Home will direct. Mr. Hall is survived by four daughters Mrs. Hazel Alldridge, Mrs. Imogene Hinel, Mrs. Betty Dunn and Mrs. Barbara Sue Lindsey; three sons Milford Hall, Herbert Hall and Edsel Hall; three brothers; one sister; 25 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Slaughter is survived by her husband H.C. Slaughter; three sons; R. B. Slaughter, Millard Robert Slaughter and ?. D. Slaughter (can't read) one sister; three brothers; ? grandchildren (can't read) and one great grandchild.
