a. Note:   Elton was a short man (5' 3") with gray eyes and brown hair. I've been told he had huge hands. (VDL) At age 18, Elton went to Glendive, Montana to work on Uncle Lon's (Alonzo) sheep ranch. He moved to Gray when his father died. He owned a farm in Gray by June 18, 1918 consisting of 100 acres. This was stated when he tried to be deferred . He was inducted June 25, 1918 as a private in the Waggoner Supply Company 3rd Infantry. He was Honorably Discharged January 17, 1919. After he was discharged, he became a Stationary Engineer for Boston Rubber Co. He worked there until his death. He was a member of Masonic Lodge of Plymouth, Maine, the National Association of Engineers and The Anchor Club, Boston, Mass.
