In the 1860 US Federal Census, New Hampshire is listed as his place of birth After a 38-year period of union with Massachusetts, New Hampshire was made a separate royal colony in 1679, and entered the Union June 21, 1788, so I don't know why New Hampshire was listed as his place of birth in the 1860 census.(VDL) In the 1870 US Federal Census, Maine is listed as his place of birth. In the 1880 US Federal Census, Massachusetts is listed as his place of birth. Maine separated from Massachusetts in 1820. As Ira was born in 1812, maybe that's why he listed Massachusetts as his place of birth.(VDL)
