Dwel li ng #4. I don't know the connection of Hial to Robert Brown, but assume Ro be rt is a relative, probably a brother to George W. Brown, who was mar ri ed to Mary E. Cady. Source: Oshkosh WI Historical Society It contains a bit of a look into the life of Hial Cady's in Winnebago Co un ty, WI. Daniel Cady Darrow died Jan 1, 1862, age 46. His wife was Isabella Mu rr ay 1816-Dec 21, 1894. Their children include Annabella 1842-1906 ( m. J. A. Chamberlain); Seymour Finley 1844- March 1894, who served in C o. I of t he 21st Wisconsin; Mary Hope 1845-1872 (named for Isabella's sis ter); a nd David Murray May 1848-July 1912 (named for Isabella's father). Their farm was about 1.5 miles northeast from Hial Cady's. If you use m ap qust or mapblast, you can still find Darrow Road west of Neena h. It is pa rt of a small subdivision along with Murray Road and Balfo ur Road (Isabell a's sister Grace married the Balfour). If you printed the entire page of 1870 census for Julius and Sarah Mo re y, you will find Isabella Darrow and her family two dwellings above the m. When most of the Murray family came out from Genesee County NY in t he fa ll of 1847, son Duncan wrote a letter back to Uncle George and Au nt Jan e. I have a photocopy. They stayed with the Cadys while thier cab in w as being built. Duncan writes as if Uncle George and all knew w ho he mea nt by Cady. "Oshcosh is ten miles from Cady's. So the next morn ing Sept 2 5th I started off on foot Mary & Eliza walked 6 milds wi th me & stop ed at a Mr. Brooks & took diner. I got to Cadys a little aft er dinner & s tarted James off with Cadys waggon for the rest of them ." "I will commen ce at Oshcosh it is a little village situated on the la ke at the cou th of the Wolf River which is a beautiful stream nearly equ al to the Huds on at Albany . You go nearly north to go to Cadys. The ro ad is very goo d; it is openings along the road with very little timb er so the country do es not look as new as it realy is. There is more timb er as you go toward C adys; the soil clay mixed with gravel or sand ! ..." "All things considered Cady had the best situation as the low er e nd of his place being timber and the upper part being openings." " we wi ll build one something like Cadys 25 by 15 feet it makes a very comf ortab le house. We live with Cadies have our own vitcals and things." The Murray group was father, mother, William, Duncan, David jr, Eli za a nd Mary--7 of them! Daniel and Isabella Darrow were already ther e, as we re Grace and James Balfour. SO WHY STAY WITH THE CADYS, ev en if their cab in was largest?? There must be a connection! These fol ks were from To wn of Pavilion, south of LeRoy in eastern Genesee Count y; not exactly ne xt door to Steuben County. I have no further clues. Research by Janet Starrett.
