The Lima Recorder, Thursday, August 20, 1959 Arvade Miller, 59, Springwater, was arrested on a charge of cruelty to a ni mals on Aug. 11 after Miller shot a neighbor's dog. Miller was taken before Springwater Justice Bruce Haywood and was fined $25. on his plea of guilty. [Shirley Corp's note: This dog belonged to Harry Platt and was habitually killing Arvade Miller's chickens. When Platt was notified of his dog 's behavior, nothing was done and the dog continued to kill the chickens. So Arvade Miller took the law into his own hands and shot and killed the dog. Most of the neighbors supported Arvade Miller and criticized Bruce Haywood for incorrect proceedure. This was not an act of animal cruelty but an act to protect Arvade Miller's poultry business from financial loss.] Source: Old Fulton NY Post Cards Website Springwater Valley News - May 18, 1967 extracted from the article David Curtice operated a fruit drier or evaporator in a building no th of Arvade Miller's house for a few years about 1880 to 1895.
