(dau) 10 PA BREAKS LEG IN WOODS 100 years ago On Tuesday Orlando Duell, of Denton Hill, while at work in the woods h ad t he misfurtune to break his leg, in such a manner that the bone protru ded t hrough the flesh (a compound fracture). The accident was an unusual ly b ad one. Dr. Ashvraft was at once summoned and although Mr. Due ll is a m an of sixty years or more it is believed that he will recover t he use of t he member. NY (Saunders) Obit provided by Mary Mager William Orlando Duell was born at Wayland, NY, March 1, 1849, comi ng wi th his parents at an early age to Potter County where, with few exce ption s, he spent his entire life. In 1874, he wedded Mary A. Butler of S wed en Hill, who preceded him in death in the year 1886. to them four chi ldr en were born: Mary, Mrs Edd Davis of Greenwood, NY; William H., and De lv in I. Duell of Sweden Valley and Roy, deceased. In the year 1890, he w edd ed Mary Saunders of West Union, NY, and to them three children were b or n: Mattie, dying in infancy; Hattie, Mrs Earl Holt of Quaker Bridge, N Y; A nna, Mrs Fred Denhoff of Coudersport PA. He was in his usual good he al th until the morning of March 21st, when he was stricken at about 8: 00 am as he was reading, remaining in a semi-conscious condition until Su nd ay morning, but gradually growing weaker and without rallying, enter ed h is last sleep and passed peacefully away at 10:55pm Sunday at the ri pe a ge of eighty-two years and twenty-two days. Orlando, as he was famil iar ly known, while never amassing a surplus of worldly goods was a m an of ste rling worth and no more fitting tribute to his memory can be sa id than th at he was a respected and obliging neighbor and a kindly and lo ving husba nd and father. Prayer service was held at the home of his step -daughte r, Mrs Clyde Hall, Lymansville, and services at the M. E. Chur ch at Swed en Valley at 2pm, March 26th, Rev. A. M. Dietterch officiatin g.
