(dau) 17 S Florida PA PA 1920 Census - can't find Family history as told by Blanche Mildred Davis and passed down to Dee M cG onigle. Joseph Francis Davis 1st, or Mr. Frank Davis, as he was always known fo ug ht in the 126th PA regiment in the Civil War and his baby son Charl es w as sickly as a child since his mother Mary Cornish died the day he w as bor n, so when he married Miss Ruby they moved to Florida to try to sa ve th is sickly baby boy and they succeeded. However, they all hated Flo ri da so traded that farm sight unseen for the one in Chesterfield Co un ty VA 2 miles from where I now live. Mr. Frank Davis and Mr Joseph Meu ni er were two old soldiers who loved talking war stories. Joseph Meuni er h ad fled from the terror in France and arrived in New Orleans and ne ed ed a job so he jumped into the Confederate army and fought all t he w ay to Appomatox, coming right through Chesterfield Co. When he was p arol ed at Appomatox, he went back to New Orleans, got his money and boug ht a f arm here in Chesterfield Co...the same farm my Daddy was born on ( Jose ph Meunier was my grandmother's father)...anyhow Miss Ruby hated Ches terfi eld Co VA because everybody here called her a damn Yankee, the nor th w as very cruel to the South, buring everything in its path...apparent ly th at was the custom for the winning army to do... so when my grandpare nts ma rried, she told Mr. Frank Davis she was going home to PA, which s he di d. Mr. Frank never forgave her for leaving him, and when he dec id ed to go back to Harrison Valley, he bought a store there and lived ov er t he store...Miss Ruby lived with her sister...she and Mr. Frank remain ed ma rried but never lived together again and that is one reason she is n ot bur ied on the Davis square. Note from Dee: She must have been a nice lady though because my grandfa th er called her his mother and apparently loved her a great deal.
