The passing from life of Elmer Downey of near Wileysville, NY occurred in St. James hospital, Hornell, where he had been a patient during the past 2 weeks after an operation. Date of death was July 5, 1943 and Mr Downey was in his 85 year of life. He was born in Township of West Union, June 23, 1859. In the year 1884 he was married to Lucinda Harrington. There were 12 children in the family, 5 of whom have preceded their father in death. Mr Downey was a carpenter by trade and had also followed farming. His entire life was spent in the Town of West Union. He had been very active all his life up to 2 weeks before his death. The following children survive: Frank of Wileysville; B. Harrison of Homer, NY; Corene Drachler of Syracuse, NY; Miss Rose Downey, Mrs Clyde Sherman and Charles of Wileysville and Milo Downey of Greenwood, NY. There are 8 grandchildren and 6 gr-grandchildren. The farewell service will be held today, Thursday, July 8, 1943 from Whitesville Gospel Chapel. Burial will be in Whites Corners Cemetery, with Fred Wildman directing and Rev Robert A Canberg officiating.
