a. Note:   Julia's death certificate reports that her mothers name was Sophia North. That is not correct, it was Sophia Woodman. Sophia's mother (Esther McIntyre) was married three times. Her first husband was John Woodman (Sophia's father), her second husband was Jeremiah Hurlburt, and her third husband was Ruben North. she was known as "Grandma North" to her family according to Esther M. Culwell. OBITUARY--RICHARDSON Julia F. Burgess was born at Racine Wisconsin, October 14, 1856, and passed from this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gertie Friend, 6 miles north of Howard, Kansas, at 9:50 p.m., March 9, 1928, age 71 years, 4 months and 24 days. When a child she moved with her parents to Gage County, Nebraska, settling on a farm 5 miles southeast of DeWitt. On October 14, 1870, she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Richardson of DeWitt, Nebraska. To this union was born 16 children, nine boys and seven girls, four of whom with her husband have passed on, Pearl, Ralph and Daisy, passing on in infancy, Mrs. Jean Walker of Beatrice, Nebraska, on June 3, 1926; her husband going on June 13, 1914. Those living are: Willis of Cobbin, Wis.; Lewis of Lannigan, MO.; Arthur of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; Walter of Ft. Cobb, Okla.; Edgar, Henry Orvel and Jessie of Piedmont, Kansas; Mrs. Elsie Shumard, of DeWitt, Nebr.; Mrs. Chloe Morgan, Mrs. Ida Babb and Mrs. Gertie Friend of Howard, Kansas. Besides her children she leaves one brother, Wm. Burgess of DeWitt, Nebr.; and one sister, Mrs. Ludencia Quackenbush of Beatrice, Nebr, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. She spent her early life in Gage County, Nebr., moving to Prairie County, Arkansas in 1894 and from there to Elk County, Kansas in 1899, where she resided until her departure for her Eternal home. In her early youth she was baptized and became a member of the Christian church, later affiliating with the Church of God and was a devoted member until the end came.
