C. Elvin. She attended the Blue River, Nebraska Branch. In the Democratic Guide, DeWitt, Saline County, Nebr., Thursday, December 20, 1888, Vol 1, No. 6..... Mrs. Burgess died at Beatrice at the home of her son-in-law Jack Struble. She was 67 years of age and her death was quite sudden. She was buried Wednesday in Ellis's cemetery east of town. In the DeWitt Times, DeWitt, Saline County, Nebraska, Thursday, December 20, 1888, Vol. VIII, No. 18 BURGESS--At her home east of DeWitt, Monday, December 17, 1888, Mrs. Sophia Burgess, aged 68 years. The above newspaper articles furnished by Doris Peters, DeWitt, NE. who says that the cemetery is referred to as the Ellis cemetery because it was located on land owned by Joseph Ellis, a prominent farmer, and also as the Prairie Star cemetery because the school where this was located was in that district. The cemetery is located in Section 15 of Grant Precinct, Gage County, NE, 4 miles east of DeWitt and is now called the Rosehill Cemetery. There evidently is no stone marking Sophia's grave as none was found when it was walked and recorded in November 1998.
