Mr. Shumard was a member of the Elm Park Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Elsie: a daughter Audry; his brothers, Frank of DeWitt and George of Mahaska, Kan. and one sister, Ora Close of Ellis, Neb. OBITUARY --- Lincoln Evening Journal, Friday, February 12, 1954 Sylvester Shumard's Funeral Saturday. The funeral of Sylvester Shumard, 74, of 2700 Sumner who died Thursday, will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Roper and Sons, the Rev. Lloyd Watt officiating with burial in Lincoln Memorial Park. North Star Lodge 227, AF&AM, will be in charge of Masonic services. Mr. Shumard was born in Fiat, Kan. He later moved to the DeWitt vicinity and lived there until 1938 when he moved to Lincoln. He was employed by the Green Furnace Company. He was a member of North Star Lodge 277, AF&AM; Christ Methodist Church; DeWitt Masonic Lodge; Monica Chapter, OES, at DeWitt; and Royal Arch Masons. Surviving are his wife, Elsie; daughter, Audrey; brothers, Frank of DeWitt and George of Mahaska, Kan., and a sister, Mrs. Ory Close of Ellis.
