Note: OBITUARY -- MRS ROSE BURGESS PASSES AWAY Was Long Time Resident of Grant Township Mrs. N. E. Burgess passed away January 6, 1933 at the home of her son Ed Burgess. While being in family health for nearly a year "Grandma" Burgess was quite active and attended her regular duties, never complaining until the day after Christmas when she was taken to her bed and rapidly failed until death came to relieve her suffering. She had lived continuously on the same place in Grant Township, Gage County, Nebraska since her marriage to N. E. Burgess. In 1872, with the exceptions of two brief intervals. Mrs. Burgess was highly respected and loved by all who knew her which was demonstrated by the great number of friends and relatives, who attended the services. She was tenderly laid to rest on the family lot, by the side of her husband and grandson in Oak Grove Cemetery. The casket bearers were her two sons Ed and Gerald; two grandsons, Carroll Tussey and Robert Plucknett, her son-in-law, Wm. Tussey, and her nephew, Preston Shineman. Elder Samuel Brolliar of Wilber, life long friend of the deceased, had charge of the services. Miss Audra Shumard sang two beautiful and appropriate hymns. Those attending the funeral from a distance were: S. W. Shineman; Garland Shineman, Preston Shineman, wife and son, George Lucas, wife and son, Mrs. Mary Barrett, Mrs. Bert Barrett, Mrs. Ollie Lutz, all of Frankfort, Kansas, Jess Walker, wife and daughter of Beatrice; J. B. Higgins of Beatrice; Roy Burgess and wife of Blue Springs; Wm. Bell, wife and son of Elba, Colorado; George and Henry Johnson of Table Rock, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Hale Davis of Brock, Nebr. Rose Comstock was born June 10, 1845, in Branch County, Michigan, the daughter of Jonas and Catherine (Ruthruff) Comstock. In 1871 she came to Nebraska with her family. On March 31, 1872, she was united in marriage to Nehemiah E. Burgess. To this union were given three sons and one daughter; Edmond N., Gerald E., Gertrude (Burgess) Tussey and Bertram (twins) both of whom preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, Ed, and Gerald; four grandchildren; Florence (Tussey) Plucknett, Carroll Tussey, Alberta Tussey and Beulah Rose Burgess; three great grandchildren, Percy and Keith Plucknett, and Jack Tussey; one sister Mary Barrett, two half brothers, Cyrus and Samuel Shineman, and one step brother Mace Shineman. She passed away at one o'clock p.m. January 6, 1933, at the home of her son Ed, at the age of 78 years, 6 months, and 27 days.
