Why has he not been listed as a family member in previous census records? The Girard Press, Crawford Co, KS Thursday, January 22, 1891 OBITUARY---POOLE-In Elk County, Kansas, January 12, 1891, of pneumonia, David Poole, aged 69 years, 7 months, and 26 days. The deceased was born in Ashtabula County, Ohio, May 16, 1821, and removed to Iowa in June 1837. He was married to Elizabeth Summers January 6th, 1847, ten children being born to them, of whom six survive him, one being Mrs. E. A. Wasser, of Girard. In June 1872, he went to Minnesota with his family, but remained only about eighteen months, coming to Kansas in 1873, and buying a farm 3 and 1/2 miles south-east of Girard. A few years ago he sold his farm and went to Elk County, having in the meantime sojourned on the Pacific Coast about two years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: I am wondering who the six surviving children are? I know of 7 children with Olive, Frank, Monroe, Marion, Martha all 5 still living. Ida is deceased and I find no information on the son Lafayette after listed in the 1870 Census. In the 1900 Census Marion lists a brother, Charles born in March1870 living with him and their mother Elizabeth. I find no more information on Charles. When Elizabeth died in 1905 her obit said she was survived by 5 children. (Personal note: When I was growing up my mother, Florence {Armstrong} Friend, every time we visited Cresco Cemetery on Memorial Day would mention that someone was buried in an unmarked grave where a plant or bush was located. As I recall the location was just to the north of Frank & Florence Poole graves. David Pool/Poole is the only person that I can't confirm where he was buried, so believe he is the person my mother told me about. Wish I had taken notes, as living family members I have contacted can't confirm where David is buried, not even the cemetery sexton. I have entered his burial in Cresco Cemetery as I believe that is where he was buried. I have searched other cemeteries in Elk Co. and have not found a different burial site for him. Louise (Friend) Havens.) ___________________ Note: David Poole [aka Pool] was the son of Elijah and Lucy [Niles] Pool. Elijah, along with Lucy's parents, David and Lydia [Barrett?] Niles, moved into the Ashtabula County area about 1804, settling in Salem, later Conneaut, Township.
