J. Morris of Howard were among a family group of 45 honoring the couple on their golden wedding anniversary. Lewis G. Morris of 1611 West Pine is a son. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Morris of Howard observed their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner and reception at their home on February 11. The couple was married at Howard on February 13, 1918, and the Howard community since has been the family home. The occasion was especially joyous in that the gathering was the first in many years for the four sons and four daughters of the couple. The family group of 45 persons included all 22 grandchildren and the six great-grandchildren. The sons of the couple, in addition to Lewis G. Morris of El Dorado, include Willard Morris of Winfield, Eugene Morris of Covina, Calif., and Chester Morris of Wichita. The four daughters are Mrs. Edith Shipman and Mrs. Dallas Webster (Coretta) both of Howard; Mrs. Clayton Hedges (Ruth) of Severy, and Mrs. Leon Goss (Dorothy) of Wichita. Mr. and Mrs. Morris have visited here frequently and are known to many local residents. OBITUARY---The Howard Courant-Citizen, Thursday, March 4, 1971 Edward James Morris died at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield, KS Tuesday, February 23, 1971, where he had been a patient for five days. He was born in Douglas County, Missouri, December 31, 1896. He moved with this parents to Greenwood County, Kansas, at the age of 15. Later the family moved to Elk County, where he spent most of this life in or near Howard engaged in farming. On February 13, 1918, he was married to Alice Poole in Howard. He was a member of the Christian Church. Retiring in 1953, he and his wife moved into Howard, where he served as night watchman for 11 years. Survivors, in addition to his widow of the home, are four sons, Willard of Winfield, Eugene of West Covina, California, Lewis of El Dorado and Chester of Wichita; four daughters, Mrs. Edith Shipman of Howard, Mrs. Ruth Hedges of Severy, Mrs. Coretta Webster of Howard and Mrs. Dorothy Goss of Wichita; two brothers, Virgil of Camp Creek, Alberta, Canada and Otha, Henton, Canada; Five sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Wiley of Vernon, B.C., Canada, Mrs. Jessie Rollens of Victoria, B.C., Canada, Mrs. Alberta Cole of Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Emma Des Georges of Salem, Oregon, and Mrs. Mary Morris, Salem Oregon; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services were conducted at the Spurrier Chapel, Howard, KS, Friday, February 26, at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Clarence Brooks of the First Christian Church officiating. Music was presented by Mrs. Curtis Morgan, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Robin Smith at the organ. Casket bearers were Fern Brougher, Clem Portenier, John West, Lewis Chamberlain, Elgie Fickle and Clarence Lister. Concluding services and interment were in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard.
