The Elk County Citizen, Friday, October 19, 1894 The dwelling house of Wm. Royce, together with its contents, located four miles north of Howard, was destroyed by fire last Monday night. Mr. Royce is a very poor man and can ill afford to sustain the loss. A neighbor was circulating a subscription paper for his benefit among our citizens and raised quite a nice sum. Miss Ida Edwards, the teacher in that district, boarded with the Royces and suffered the loss of her watch, all her clothes and twenty-two dollars in money. The family lost all their wearing apparel and bed clothes. The fire is supposed to have originated from a defective stove pipe. 1895 State of Kansas Census Paw Paw Township, Elk County, Kansas Dwelling #87 Family #87 ROYSE, W.
