Jeptha willed or gave his farm to his step-son Homer Coonrod for care for himself and Mary in their old age. The house where Jeptha and Mary lived is still on the place but is not lived in (1970). There is a new house which probably is occupied by a descendant of Homer Coonrod, who is now deceased. OBITUARY--The Howard Courant, October 23, 1941 Jeptha Austin Royse was born March 3, 1858 in Mercer County Missouri, the son of William and Frances Royse and passed away at the home of this step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Homer Coonrod, north of Howard. He was 83 years, 7 months and 14 days of age at the time of his passing. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Coonrod of Howard in April 1901. Mrs. Royse preceded him in death. Two children were born to this union, the oldest of which died in infancy and the other, Opal passed away at about the age of five years. He is survived by his sister Florence Poole of Howard, and two step-sons, Homer of Howard, KS and Hall of Racine, Wisconsin. He had resided in this community for about 68 years and was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were held at the home of his step-son, Homer Coonrod, Sunday, October 19th, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. E. H. Milton, pastor of the Howard Baptist Church. Interment was at the Cresco Cemetery north of Howard.
