Eally and Mary J. Royse, both of Elk county, were married March 9. (note: this conflicts with the date of marriage in the obituary below.) The Howard Courant, Howard, Elk County, Kansas, Thursday, March 5, 1936 OBITUARY - MRS. JOHN EALLEY Mary Etta Royse, daughter of William and Frances Royse, was born in old Howard county, Kansas near Peru, September 6, 1871 and departed this life March 2, 1936, aged 64 years, 5 months and 24 days. She spent her early life and acquired her schooling in the Pleasant Hill community. She was united in marriage to John Ealley March 20, 1894, and to this union one son George S. was born and passed on in infancy. In her early married life she united with the Christian church. In 1901 she took her nephew Roy DeWitt and reared him as her own. Her husband preceded her in Death on July 17, 1930. Two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Barnes and Mrs. Lillie DeWitt and one brother, Fred Royse have also passed into the great beyond. She leaves to mourn her departure her nephew Roy DeWitt and his wife Allie and their son Merle, one brother, Jeptha Royse and one sister, Mrs. Florence Poole and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services conducted by E. B. King, minister of Howard Christian church at the Moon Funeral Home, March 3, 1936 and the burial was at the Cresco Cemetery north of Howard.
