The 1875 and 1880 census lists her birth state as Missouri. According to Thomas Armstrong's obituary the family moved to Missouri when he was 7 years old. Since he was born in 1846 that places the year the family moved to Missouri in about 1853. This makes her birth state questionable, however the 1860 and 1870 census records (containing information provided by her parents) lists her birth state as Kentucky. Surely her parents would have provided the more accurate information. *1888: At the time Nettie's father death her name was still listed as McFadin *January 1889: His estate papers lists her as Bernetta McFadden living in Jackson County, MO *Feb 1891: When his estate was settled she was still listed as Bernetta "Nettie" McFadden *1922: At the time of an uncle's death her name was thought to be Bernetta Peters but could not be located.
