HEDRICK, 93 Death has taken Mrs. Luemma Hedrick, 93, whose memory reaches back to the bitter days of Missouri when Jackson County was evacuated by Order No. 11. Mrs. Hedrick, who lived at 906 S. Noland Rd., died this morning at the Independence Sanitarium where she had been the past two months suffering from a hip fracture. Mrs. Hedrick was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Armstrong who owned a farm three miles east of Independence. She recalled on her birthday last Dec. 15, that her mother wept bitterly when the family left the farm home with all their possessions in a wagon that fateful day in 1863. The family lived for 18 months in Richmond, returning to Jackson County to find their home in shambles. Mrs. Hedrick was married when she was 15 to Ira J. Hedrick, a Kansas City builder, who built the Battery Block in Independence in 1907. He died in 1917. Her two daughters, Mrs. J. G. Harmon and Miss Harriett Hedrick, also preceded her in death, as well as a grandson. Mrs. Hedrick lived alone until her accident two months ago, doing all of her own house work. She was a member for 53 years of the First Congregational Church in Kansas City. The only survivors are three nieces, Mrs. Bertie Fowler, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. William Kenngott, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Maggie Schmidt, Higginsville, Mo., and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
