Teter died yesterday. End came to one of Slaters oldest citizens. Funeral tomorrow afternoon. John A. Teter died at the family home in Slater Monday morning at 11:30 after an illness of several days. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 conducted by the Rev. E. T. Raney. Internment will be made in the City Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. John Allison Teter was born in Rose County, Ohio, March 16, 1839. At the time of his death was passed 89 years of age. He married Miss Mary Jane Long June 6, 1861, and in the fall of 1868 moved to Saline County and since that time Mr. Teter lived 1 1/2 of Slater. To the home came 10 children, 2 of them whom survive. They are Mrs. Minnie E. Everly, Kansas City and John R. Teter of Villa Grove, Ill. Mrs. Teter died Dec 1, 1908 and he was married to Mrs. Virginia Lee Miller at Kansas City, January 13, 1910, she survives him. He is also survived by 2 step-daughters, Mrs. W. A. Kenngott of Chicago and Mrs. Luther E. Fowler of Marion, Ill. Also 5 grandchildren, Clara A. Ridgeway of Kansas City, Mary Jane Anderson of Kansas City, John B. Teter, Villa Grove, Virginia and Millard Fowler of Marion and 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Teter was perhaps the only man in this section that had the distinction of voting for Abraham Lincoln in the first campaign. Mr. Teter was 21 years of age in March before the election and cast his first vote in the fall of 1860. Many years of his life was spent on a farm just a short distance from Slater. Althought the home was blessed with 10 children all died except 2, some years ago during an epidemic of diptheria. The parents lost 4 children in 2 weeks. Mr. Teter served 3 years in the civil war in the Federal Army. He had also the distinction of being one of the oldest members of the masonic order in this section of the state. He was a member of the Slater Methodist Church.
