a. Note:   OBITUARY---Cascade Pioneer, October 31, 1890, page 8 Mrs. Peter Summers died at the family residence in Cascade on Monday, Oct. 20th, 1890. Her maiden name was Polly Pantier and she was born in Ohio, July 4th, 1811. When four years old her parents moved to Illinois, and when eighteen years old was married to Peter Summers. In 1839 they moved to Iowa and located in Whitewater township, Dubuque County, in fact at the time of her death had been a resident of the county for over a half century, being among the earliest of the pioneer settlers of Iowa, and experienced all the vicissitudes incident to early pioneer life. When seventeen years old she joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church and continued her membership until 1840, when having no church of that denomination in the vicinity, she joined the M. E. church of which she was a consistent member up to the time of her death. She was a mother of nine children, eight of whom survive her. Among those present at her funeral were David Summers of Calliope, Eliza Goodwin and Mary Bellesfield of Harwarden, Mrs. A. A. Smith of Lehigh, Mrs. Susan Peters of Union county, Dakota, and grand-son Charles F. Summers of Western, Saline county, Neb. and the relatives who reside at Cascade. The Rev. F. H. Linn of Delhi preached the funeral sermon. The funeral was largely attended.
