Cole's Neck Broken and Skull Crushed When He Fell From Top of Corn Crib. Peter J. Cole, 69, was mortally injured when he fell from the top of a corn crib in process of construction on the Bahney farm, a short distance southwest of the city, at about 8:30 this morning. His neck was broken, his skull crushed, and his right had was broken. An ambulance was sent at once, but he had passed away before it arrived. Mr. Cole is the father of J. V. Ashford who, with her husband and family are tenants on the farm. Nothing is known as to how Mr. Cole happened to fall. There were no eye witnesses to the accident. Only a few minutes before, Mr. Cole had eaten breakfast with the rest of the family. As he got up from the table, he said: "Well, I guess I'll get to work on the corn crib." I'll be out to help you in a few minutes." his son-in-law said. When Mr. Ashford went out a few minutes later, he found Mr. Cole lying where he had fallen on a pile of rocks close beside the new corn crib. He had evidently fallen from the top of the structure which is about 15 feet in height. Mr. Cole's terrible injuries were due to the height of the crib, the fact that he was heavy, weighing about 180 pounds and his falling on a pile of rocks. The remains will be sent tomorrow afternoon to Walnut Bend, Mo., the former home of the deceased for interment. Mr. Cole had been a resident of the county for many years. Formerly he resided on a farm south of Redfield. There his wife died in 1905. About three years ago he came to make his home with his daughter, and had resided with her since. Note: Errors & Corrections 1. Malta Bend....not Walnut Bend 2. His wife (Josie) died in 1908....not 1905 3. Mr. Cole is the father of Mrs. J. V. Ashford....not J. V. Ashford
