Note: OBITUARY Emma Louisa Reader, daughter of Henry and Caroline Mestmacher Scheer, was born near Mt. Zion, Henry County, Missouri on March 22, 1882, and departed this life January 22, 1968 in Macon County Hospital in Decatur, Illinois at the age of 85 years and ten months. She lived at the place of her birth until her marriage to John Charles Reader on February 8, 1905 in the Scheer home. The newlyweds made their first home in Sprague, Missouri, where they resided until 1911. They then moved to the Deepwater, Missouri vicinity where she lived until after the death of her husband. In 1948 she and her youngest daughter, Edna, moved to Clinton, Missouri where they resided until 1955, when they moved to Decatur, Illinois. Here she resided until her death. She and her husband established a most happy home, and to their union was born four children, George of Granite City, Illinois; Ralph of Bourbonnais, Illinois; Ruth and Edna of Decatur, Illinois, all of whom survive. In her early life she attended the Reformed Church, and was a member of a confirmation class. At the age of 18 she was gloriously saved and sanctified in a revival conducted in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church under the preaching of Rev. B. T. Flannery. After her conversion she united with the Methodist Church of which she remained a member until she became a charter member of The Church Of The Nazarene in Deepwater, Missouri, in the summer of 1924. This Nazarene Church was the direct outgrowth of the Interdenominational holiness Campmeeting which Mr. and Mrs. Reader promoted. She remained a member and was an active promoter of the Deepwater Church Of The Nazarene until she moved to Decatur, Illinois and united with the West Side Church Of The Nazarene in 1955. She is survived by her four children and their companions, six grandsons, five great grandchildren, one sister, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. She lived a devoted Christian life for about 68 years. She and her husband were tithers and sacrificial givers to the work of God. She was a woman of prayer, loved righteousness, and worked for the salvation of the lost. She lived in unbroken fellowship with God from the time of her conversion until death. She was a dedicated Christian mother who instructed her children in the ways of the Lord, bringing them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Her final words were, "I am going home." Today she rests from her labors and her works do follow her. We bid her goodnight, expecting to meet her just inside the Eastern Gate in the morning.
