Note: OBITUARY--The Pueblo Chieftain, Friday, September 7, 1973 Mrs. Jessie L. Sims, Pueblo resident last 80 years, late of 425 Gaylord, passed away, Pueblo Manor Nursing Home, September 6, 1973, following lengthy illness. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, True Sims, in 1971 and by her son, Howard E. Reader in 1970. Mrs. Sims was the only surviving charter member of Listen and Learn Club for the blind. Survived by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Margaret G. Reader of the family home, and her grandson, James H. Reader of the family home, and her grandson, James H. Reader, Littleton, Colo. Two great-grandsons also survive. Services 10:30 a.m. Saturday, T. G. McCarthy Chapel with the Rev. Harold R. Tuttle, pastor, Lake Avenue Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Roselawn. According to Michael Reader, her great-grandson, Jessie had Glaucoma and became blind at age 21. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jessie came to Pueblo with family about 1893 from Iowa. Jessie was blinded as the result of an accident she suffered as a child in which she injured her eyes. Headstone marked "Jessie Reader Sims" She is buried between her two husbands at the feet of her parents.
