a. Note:   "My father, John (Mattison) came out to Ida in Republic County, in 1875, from Pennsylvania. His brother, Jim, had come just before. They kept a general merchandise store. They had to haul, by team, from Fairbury, big barrels of many kinds of produce. The mail was kept in one corner of the store. The stage stopped in front of the store. We had no canned fruit, just dried apples, peaches and prunes. After the railroad went through Hubbell, Jim left and my father went down to Farmington Twp., by the Eureka school." - Lora Mattison. James Mattison was Postmaster of Ida from October 21, 1880 until January 29, 1884. The railroad moved to Hubbell in the late 1880's. This evidently was when James left. However, he must have still been in the area when Susannah died in 1899 because he found a buyer for the real estate.
