JOHN W. LEONARD, 1917 Margaret Frances Alderson, was born in Allen county, Kentucky, April 24, 1838. She was a daughter of John Alderson and came to Missouri with her father in 1856. There were ten children in this family, six of whom survive: William and Jim Alderson and Mrs. Mary Armstrong, of Howard, Kansas; Irving Alderson of Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, and George and Elmore Alderson of Belton, Missouri. In 1871, the year Belton began, she was married to John W. Leonard and to this union five children were born: William, Frank M., Ada B., Cora L. and Jesse W. Ada B. died in infancy and Cora L. is the wife of Chas A. Moss. Nearly 50 years ago Mrs. Leonard was converted to the Christian faith at a meeting held in the Swampy old schoolhouse, conducted by the late Rev. E. M. Bailey. She took membership with the West Union Baptist church and later joined the Belton congregation. Her husband preceded her to the Spirit Land November 21, 1891. For years she was in poor health but was wonderfully cheerful for one so afflicted. Her last days were spent under the tender came of her daughter, Mrs. Moss. Last Sunday morning she passed away. Monday afternoon Rev. T. C. Brammer preached the funeral discourse at the Baptist church and interment was at the Alderson cemetery.
