a. Note:   Following the death of Mary's Mother, Anna Davin Peine, in 1858, Mary cared for her Father and younger siblings until her marriage to Jonas Friend in 1861.. She and her husband farmed in the Hittle Grove area. The couple faced many losses in their lives as was evident to me when viewing the graves of so many of their children. Mary laid her father to rest in the Hittle Grove Cemetery in Apr 1872 and 4 months later, her husband, Jonas was there to bury Mary and 2 of their sons who died within 5 days of each other.. The Hittle Grove Cemetery is denoted as a national landmark, and is very hard to find because it sits in the middle of a field. If you want to see it, don't do it in the fall, crops too high to find it..
