They had one child - Arizona Leota - this must be the Leota Drury, niece named in Joseph Bayler's will. 1870 Census Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois enumerated June 29, 1870 Dwelling #255, Family #262 SMITH, Laban, 48, m/w, carpenter, born in Kentucky ______, Amelia, 30, f/w, keeps house, born in Illinois ______, Arizona, 14, f/w, at home, born in Illinois OBITUARY---Washington News, June 19, 1879 Died on Saturday morning, June the 14th, 1879, at his residence in this city of Cancerous tumor of the stomach, Mr. Labon Jackson Smith, aged fifty-six years, seven months, and eight days. The deceased was born in Hardin County, Kentucky, coming to this state when yet a boy. He was twice married. His first wife (by whom he had one daughter, Mrs. Wm., Drury, of Peoria, who still survives) was Miss Amanda Bayler, of this city, to whom he was married on the 4th of July 1848. Some time after her death he was united in matrimony, at Pekin, on the 20th of November 1865 to Mrs. Amelia Kifer, with whom he was living at the time of his demise, and who now mourns his loss. Mr. Smith was sick with the disease fifteen weeks and five days, bearing his constant and acute suffering with much fortitude and resignation. Years ago he made a profession of faith to Christ, uniting with the M.E. Church in whose fellowship he remained until the day of his death. His funeral took place on Sunday morning last, Rev. U. Z. Gilmer delivering the sermon to a crowded audience, who thus testified to his worth. Burial in the old Washington Cemetery.
