Note: The last name "Flenniken" has been found to be spelled several ways in various records -- Flenniken, Flanagan, Flanigan, Flaniken, etc. OBITUARY--Washington News, February 28, 1908 Mrs. Elizabeth Bayler died at the home of her son, A. P. Bayler, at Roberts, Illinois, last Friday night. She was 85 years of age and had been failing fast the last few days. The funeral was held Sunday. Mrs. Bayler was the widow of George Bayler and was among the early settlers of Washington, coming here some sixty years ago. She made her home in our city until her husband's death ten years ago. Since then she has lived with her son, who is the only surviving child. Joseph, a younger son, was a well known business man of Washington. He died a few months previous to his father. As one writer has truly said, "Mrs. Bayler, known for so long as Grandma Bayler, will always be remembered as a beautiful Christian character, loved for her gentleness and many kindly deeds."
