Note: Hebb-Friend Marriage -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howard Courant February 25, 1932 Martin Hebb and Miss Violet Friend were married at Independence, Kansas, Wednesday, February 17, 1932 at 2:00 p.m. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Friend of northwest of Howard and has lived in that community for several years, and is a very lovable young lady whose friends are numbered by her acquaintances The groom is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hebb of southwest of Howard and was born and grew to young manhood in the present home and attended high school at Moline. He is of a very quiet nature, but loyal to his friends and loved ones. He is an industrious young farmer and stockman and they will be at home to their many friends on the I.L. Smith farm after March first. The Citizen joins with these worthy young people's many friends in wishing them a long, prosperous and very happy wedded life. Elk County Citizen-Advance News, Wednesday, March 22, 1995 Those spending the evening Saturday, March 11th with Violet Hebb were her families, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Smith, all of Hamilton and Mrs. Bethy Creed and sons of Winfield. They brought supper including a birthday cake, baked and decorated by granddaughter, Karla. Violet had received her usual bouquet of beautiful flowers on her birthday, the ninth from her son James and family. OBITUARY--The Winfield Daily Courier, Wednesday, May 6, 1998 VIOLET HEBB HOWARD--Violet Elizabeth Hebb, 87, longtime resident of Howard, died May 1, 1998, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. The Rev. Marty Dewitt will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home. Hebb was born March 9, 1911, southeast of Severy, to Wiley Michael and Gertie (Richardson) Friend. She attended Lower Paw Paw rural school and grew up in the Severy and Howard communities. On Feb. 17, 1932, she married Martin Lewis Hebb in Independence. He died in December 1951. A homemaker, she had lived in Longton and Sedan but resided in Howard most of her life. She was employed for several years at Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline and later at the Howard Senior Center. Hebb was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, James Hebb, Gresham, Ore.; three daughters, Alice Ramsey, College Station, Texas, Lucille Knight, Hamilton, and Shirley McGill, Forks, Wash.; a brother, Vern Friend, and two sisters, Ethel Criger and Della Cox, all of Howard; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
