The Howard Courant-Citizen, Howard, Elk County, Kansas, October 2, 1952 Mrs. Della Cox was pleasantly surprised Tuesday evening when friends and relatives came in with ice cream on her birthday. Those present were Millard Cox, Julia and John, Wiley Friend, Violet Hebb, Lucille and Shirley, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Friend, Melvin, Phyllis, Harold and Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Elias Morgan. Many more happy birthdays, Della. The Howard Courant-Citizen, Howard, Elk County, Kansas, October 1, 1953 Mrs. Millard Cox was really surprised last Wednesday evening when friends and relatives began driving in to help her celebrate her birthday with ice cream and cake. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Friend and family, Mr. and Mrs. Elias Morgan, Wiley Friend, Mrs. Violet Hebb and girls, Mrs. Clad Criger and children, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith and family, Millard Cox and Julia and John. It also was Wiley Friend's birthday. Della M. (Friend) Cox HOWARD - Cox, Della M. (Friend), 89, homemaker, died on Sunday, May 29, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas. The funeral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard. Published in the Wichita Eagle on 6/1/2005. OBITUARY--Winfield Daily Courier, Thursday June 2nd, 2005 Della M. Cox Della Marie Cox, 89, died May 29, 2005 at the Howard Twilight Manor in Howard. She was a long time resident of Howard. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, with Rick Reeves of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Elk Falls officiating. Burial will be held in Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard. Friends may come to the funeral home from 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday. Memorials have been established with the Howard Twilight Manor and the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard. Cox was born on Sept. 23, 1915 near Howard to Wiley Michael and Gertie (Richardson) Friend. She attended Lower Paw Paw rural school and grew to womanhood in the Howard area. Cox was employed at a box factory in Topeka during World War II before moving to Erie. On June 1, 1948 she married Millard Albert Cox at Howard and they moved into Howard in 1956. She served as a Cub Scout leader when her children were young. She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses of Elk Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John; two sisters and one brother. Cox is survived by a son, Ivan Hebb of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Julia Brenner of Howard; a brother, Vern Friend of Howard; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
