Reader (b. 3-5-1854 d. 5-26-1929) on August 31, 1871 in Clinton, Henry County, MO. They lived near La Due for about 24 years. All of their nine children were born in MO. In 1896 they came to KS in a covered wagon, bringing their children with them (except Ella). They settled first at Lebo in Coffey County, Kansas, then on to a farm west of Severy, KS in the Twin Grove School District. In 1909 they all (except Wiley) moved to Chetopa, KS. In 1910 they moved to Centralia, Oklahoma. The family camped near a well in the town of Centralia while they built their home on their farm northwest of Centralia. Thomas and "Lizzie" both died on their farm at Centralia, Oklahoma. Both were buried in the Welch, Oklahoma Cemetery (on the west side). Four of their children, George, Charles, Addie and Chester never married, they helped on the farm. After their parents died, George, Charley and Addie moved into Centralia. Addie keeping house for her brothers until their deaths. DEATH NOTICE: In the Vinita Daily Journal this was found among the Centralia news items: "Grandpa Friend passed away Monday evening at 6 o'clock. We wish to express our sympathy to all the relatives." Found in the Nowata, Oklahoma newspaper PIONEER CENTRALIA CITIZEN PASSES AWAY Thomas Denton (sic) Friend, 98-year-old pioneer of the Centralia community, passed away at his home there at 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Friend moved to the Centralia district 31 years ago from Severy, Kan., and was well and favorably known in this section of the state. Among the survvors are six sons, George, Charles, Will and Chester, all of Centralia; Wesley (sic), of Howard, Kan.; and Roy of Miami, Okla.; three daughters, Miss Addie Friend and Mrs. E. L. Allensworth, of Centralia, and Mrs. Ella Traw, of Buckner, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Centralia Baptist church and burial will be in the Welch cemetery.
