Notes
a. Continued:   Note from John Robertson:
Edna Vacher said that William's father David took out a land grant in St. Tammany Parish LA in 1804 (See American Papers Vol. 3, p.
 71) and it was partially settled. In 1812 when LA was made a state,
William Robertson took over the estate and became an actual settler in
1816, making a permanent home on the banks of the Tangipahoa River,
now known as Tangipahoa Parish. He prospered here, acquiring a large
plantation and 38 slaves. He also engaged in the timber business,
cutting trees and tying the logs on a raft, then floating down the
Tangipahoa river to New Orleans LA. There the logs were made into
lumber where William owned several lumber sheds. In 1814, he enlisted
in the LA militia to fight in the War of 1812 and participated in the
Battle of New Orleans. He was a Mason and active in state affairs. He
died on his plantation at age 65 shortly before the Civil War. His
widow lived to see six sons and one grandson enlist to fight in the
war. The grandson, Henry, was killed at the battle of Vicksburg.
William Robertson is buried in the Robertson Cemetery in LA that was
on the plantation. In 1935, William's descendants arranged to
preserve the family cemetery, the only remaining landmark of the
plantation. Mrs. Frances (Courtney) Robertson, wife of Levi
Robertson, who held title to the cemetery, donated it to the Robertson
descendants to be used as a burial ground.
Four tombstones have been unveiled by the UDC for Confederate veterans buried there: James Carroll Robertson, William D. Robertson,
 Alcey B. Robertson and John F. Brimberry, a son-in-law.
