a. Continued:   Note from John Robertson:
 James C. was born in St. Tammany Parish, LA, and attended the Parish schools. He enrolled in Tulane University, New Orleans LA,
 shortly before the Civil War. He enlisted as a private and was
 assigned to Co. K, 7th Infantry Division at Camp Moore on 7 Jun 1861.
 He was sent to Fort McHenry at Baltimore MD. He was wounded at the
 battle of Sharpsburg, 17 Sep 1862, and was furloughed until Mar 1863.
 He returned to his company and was promoted to corporal, then to
 sergeant (1 Nov 1863). His name was on the Register of Prisoners of
 War as paroled at Appomatox Court House VA on 10 Mar 1865. He
 returned to Tulane, and lived with his mother until her death in 1867.
 He was active in the formation of Tangipahoa Parish with the county seat in Amite LA. When H. H. Bengtsson became sheriff, James C.
 became deputy. He later became Deputy Clerk of Court. During this
 time he married Victoria, daughter of Sheriff Bengtsson. His health
 was poor due to his war injuries and he died at 34 leaving a widow and
 two children.
