Note: appears and eventually settled in San Francisco, CA. He died a few months after the "Great Earthquake" struck California in 1906. His death in 1906 leads one to believe that he died from injuries suffered during the earthquake. The 1870 census shows him to be 37 years old. His obituary indicates that he was from Kent Co., England and it also shows his membership in the "Foresters of America" organization and the Damon Lodge, No. 2 K. of P. John was a Mason.
