Note: Buried in Evergreen Home cemetery on Monday, October 5, 1942. OBITUARY* PETER J. DROULLARD Peter Jeremiah Droullard was born July 14, 1860, at Cassville, Grant County, Wis., the only son of Peter Colman and Sarah Robinson Droullard. At the age of 18 years he came with an uncle, Albert Droullard, in a covered wagon, to where the family had already settled near Pawnee City, Neb, the uncle later returning to Wisconsin before returning to Africa as a missionary for the Seven Day Adventist denomination. It was then that Peter carried mail on horse back between Pawnee City and Colby, Kas., a journey which required several days, following a "cow trail," as he so often expressed it in telling of his experiences. It was during the two years while carrying the mail that he became fascinated with the country and its possibilities that he homesteaded near Riverton, Neb., in the Republican river valley, remaining there until the arrival of his father and mother when he came to Wymore, Neb., and secured employment on the Burlington railroad in 1887. It was while working at Wymore and Blue Springs that he met and married Johanna Louise Hanke on March 12, 1889, the young couple coming to Beatrice in July, 1889. He continued working for the Burlington until 1905, after which he was employed by the Beatrice Electric company and the Dempster Manufacturing company until 1911 when he was employed by the Union Pacific railroad as a car repairer until his retirement in 1930 on account of reaching the age of 70 years. He was a great lover of God's out of doors. He loved the fields, the rivers and valleys. His early pioneer life, carrying the mail, had created in him a rugged, determined life which carried him through many hardships and discouragements in his span of 82 years without flinching. It was here at Beatrice that he and his faithful wife reared a family of two sons and two daughters. It was here that he and his wife enjoyed each other's companionship until her death on April 11, 1942. Since her death his health broke under the weight of years coupled with the loss of his wife, and he died October 2, 1942, less than six months following the death of his wife. He gave his life to his Master a number of years ago, becoming a member of Trinity Lutheran church, having taken communion at home a short while before the Rev. Saas, the pastor, left for the army. It was during the pastorate of Rev. Saas that the two became pals, each enjoying God's great out of doors together. He is survived by two sisters, two sons, Emerson of Grand Island, Neb., Fred of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Edna of Beatrice, and Leafy of North Platte, Neb.; eleven grandchildren, and one great grandchild, and a host of friends. His father, mother and five sisters preceded him in death a number of years ago. Sunset and evening star And one clear call for me And may there be no moaning at the bar When I put out to sea. For tho' from out our borne of time and place The flood may bear me far I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. * From the Beatrice Daily Sun--October, 1942 Last rites for the late Peter J.
