DROULLARD, PETER COLMAN: Born April 27, 1819 to John Droullard and Rebecca Draper in rural Ohio (probably in Clermont County). He died March 20, 1897 in Los Angeles, California and was buried March 22, 1897 in the Rosedale Cemetery located at 1831 W. Washington Blvd. in Sec 3, Lot 213, Grave 1 S.W. He was a farmer by occupation. He was married October 15, 1859 in Cassville, Grant County, Wisconsin to Sarah Robinson. She had been previously married to a man named Reynolds and had two children, William and Amy Ann Reynolds, who were born in Wisconsin. Sarah died January 16, 1914 and is buried in the same grave as her husband. The first child and only son of Peter C. and Sarah Droullard was Peter Jeremiah Droullard born July 14,1860 in Cassville, Grant County, Wisconsin. They also had five daughters, Abigill(1863), Elly(1866), Drusilla Daisy(1868), Mary J.(1871) and Rachel D.(1874). All of these daughters were born in Grant County, Wisconsin. On 18 February 1864, Peter C. Droullard bought 80 acres of land from Lewis A. Okey and his wife, Caroline, for the sum of $100. The property was located in Grant county, WI in the west half of the north east quarter of Section Seventeen, Township 3, North Range West of Waterloo Township. An 1877 property map of Waterloo Twp. shows that the property adjoined the property of Collins A. Chapman on the east side. Adjoining Collins Chapman on the east side was 160 acres belonging to Amyson Chapman. The obituary of Peter J. Droullard states that he moved from Wisconsin at the age of 18 (1878 or 1879) to a location near Pawnee City, Nebraska where the family had already settled. The family referred to here is thought to be that of Alma Droullard. The obituary also states that Peter J. Droullard homesteaded near Riverton, Nebraska in the Republican River valley where he remained "...until the arrival of his father and mother...". This would appear to be about 1887. It appears that Peter C. Droullard and his wife moved to Los Angeles, California in 1894. Sarah's last address was 1941 Roxbury Street. Peter J. Droullard made a trip from Nebraska by train to visit his mother before she died in 1914. Very little is known about the daughters of Peter C. and Sarah Droullard. Daisy married Parmer H. Gardner and had several children. She was alive in 1940. Peter J. Droullard died October 2, 1942 in Beatrice, Nebraska and his obituary states that among his survivors were two sisters--names not given. Five sisters had preceded him in death. Betty Droullard (Mary E. Trenary) of Grand Island, Nebraska had a portrait of Peter C. Droullard that was made using charcoal techniques. She also had a portrait of Peter C. and wife Sarah using the same techniques. Betty died of lymphoma July 22, 1993 and the portraits are now in the possession of her niece, Mrs. Leigh Ellen Henline who lives in Nebraska. R. F. Droullard December, 1990 Updated 10/8/1993 Updated 5/19/1995 On January 14, 2001, Jeanine Bass sent an e-mail reporting that she had found Peter C. Droullard and family in the 1880 Federal Census. They were located in Grove, Taylor County, Iowa. They are listed as follows: Peter C. Drulard- 60, farmer, b. Ohio, father b. France, mother b. Pennsylvania. Sarah - 43, b. Illinois, father b. New Hampshire, mother b. Ohio. Peter - 19, b. Wisconsin Abbigal - 17, b. Wisconsin Daisie - 12, b. Wisconsin Mary J. 9, b. Wisconsin Rachel - 6, b. Wisconsin An Internet site that discusses some of the history of Taylor County indicates that Grove was an abandoned town and became a part of Bedford, Iowa. It may also have been a Township that became a part of Bedford Township. (RFD) 8-12-03
