Notes
a. Note:   April the 19th, 1875 rite just as soon as you get this or come yourself rite awa & your wife if you can My Dear son & daughter i take my pen in hand to let you know i received your welcome letter which came to hand some time ago. I was glad to here from you and your being in good health. Your letter found my wife and William and Alma all well but it did not find me in such a Happy condision. i have bin confined to my bed for seven months almost all the time. It has bin five months since i have done anything at all. i have bin oblige to sell of my land by little peaces to get something to live on. Now i have sold the last peace i have got & i don't know what will become of me but i don't know weather i shall ever rise of my bed or not. i would be so glad to see you and my daughter. my Dear son i was so sorrow to here in your that you have turned devell & now Johnny can not indulge the least hope that if we never meet on earth that we will meet in heaven. Oh ma i not cherish this hope while i live Johny. you know that God says if we will turn to him & ask him to pardon all of our sins he will do it for he has promised to do it & his word can never fail. It wont be a great while untill we shall have to give and account of all we do and say and it is high time for us to settle up all of our accounts with our heavenly father that we ma stand Holy before Christ when he comes. You read the 24th chapter of Mathew & ther you will see the jesus says that this generation shall not pass till all be fulfilled & there is almost ever chapter will tell something about Christ near coming and it will come wether we beleive it or not. Johny i am to weak to rite much but i do hope you will be a good boy & do rite Always be honest & uprite and you will get along rite through the world. oh i do want to see you so bad. so more at present but i remain your true father until death. I send you my love and respects. John H. Droullard to his son John P. Droullard & wife. John if you want to see your father come just as quick as you can for I dont think he can live much longer. He is nothing but skin and bones. We went and moved him up in the John Garner house close by Almas & close by us so we can tend to him. William wrote you two letters & Becca rote one letter to you but they have never got an answer to either of them. Almeda Alcorn to John Droullard. Postscript to Fathers letter John you was born in fifty three the 18th of December. you will be 22 years old the 18 of next December COMMENTS ON THE LETTER--JOHN H. DROULLARD TO JOHN P. DROULLARD R. F. Droullard--March 4, 1991 I received a typed copy of this letter from Maurice E. Droullard on February 25, 1991. He got a copy of the letter from Shirley Martin, 10004 South Alaska St., Tacoma, Washington 98444 in 1977. I have re-typed the letter in order to put it on a diskette. It is not clear whether the letter was written by or for John H. Droullard. The last portion of the letter appears to have been written by Almeda (Droullard) Alcorn, John's half-sister. The Alma she refers to may be Alma Droullard (1835-1903), John H.'s half-brother. It would appear that the Becca referred to by Almeda is her daughter Rebecca Shipton who would have been about 17 years old at the time. Likewise, the William she is referring to is her son William who would have been about 19 years old. The "Postscript to Fathers letter" statement is by an unknown author. The two children of John H. Droullard living at home would appear to be too young to be writers. It could have been their mother, Elizabeth N. Droullard. September 1, 1992--- At the time I re-typed this letter, I didn't know Shirley Martin's relationship to the Droullard family. Information I received from Mr. Jim Becker and Mr. Lester F. Carney III later in the year showed that she was a descendent of John Peter Droullard. Mr. Becker informed me by telephone that Shirley (Chavis) Martin had died and that her husband had remarried. He gave all of Shirley's genealogy data to Jim Becker who, along with his sister, are interested in family history.
